Her sound is a delightful mixture of contemporary indie pop and folk rock that immediately strikes you as original and fresh. Comparisons that come to mind are Canada's favourite indie girl; Feist, Silversun Pickups and Regina Spektor. If you are a fan of these artists, be sure to check out Stephanie.

The album contains fifteen great songs that will get stuck in your head and have you singing along for days. Standout tracks include "Doll", "Photo Chemicals", "Reflection", and "Siphoning Seasons". I truly enjoyed this album and predict a bright future for this Texas indie girl.

For more CD Reviews and to post your review of this or any other CD, visit our website: www.cdreviewsbyyou.com.

Debut album doesn't disappoint

Rock Star Supernova

By: Rock Star Supernova

Well here it is, the CD that we have all been wating for. The Rock Star Supernova debut. For a guy that was a little skeptical about this group, I must admit that it is much better then I expected. Although I thought that Lukas Rossi was an amazing performer on the TV series and the perfect and only choice to front the band, I was a little dissappointed in the rest of the Supernova boys when they performed on the show. Gliby Clarke in particular was dissappointing, I don't think that I heard him solo even once during the series and I wondered if he had what it takes to be a lead guitarist. I also thought that the songs were a little weak and that they were consistently "out-rocked" by the amazing house band on the show.

After hearing the album, my opinion has somewhat changed. It has a nice flow and the tracks are overall quite good. Clarke even throws in a solo or two and has a few good moments on the disc. There is no doubt however who the superstar in this group really is. Lukas Rossi has an amazing voice and the ability to express almost any emotion both live and in the studio. He is one of the greatest rock vocalists to come along since Scott Weiland. His original track, "Headspin" is also the standout track on the CD, which proves his writing ablility as well. I am not sure how long these guys are going to stick together and if they will make another album, but I know that Lukas has a very long career in front of him. With or without Supernova.

Best Track(s)

Headspin, Leave the Lights On, Underdog

For more CD Reviews and to post your review of this or any other CD, visit our website: www.cdreviewsbyyou.com.

One of the coolest bands of this or any year

I first heard The Essex Green one day while relaxing at home and listening to Sirius Left of Center radio. Their sound immediately caught my attention and I was compelled to run over to the receiver to jot down the name of the band. I purchased Cannibal Sea and it has quickly become one of my favourite CDs of this year.

Cannibal Sea is the third and most successful album from this Brooklyn, New York based band. Right from the catchy intro on the opening track, "This Isn't Farm Life" you can certainly hear the sixties pop and folk influences the band has become known for but I would hesitate to call them simply a retro-pop band. Modern influences such as Ben Folds, The Libertines and Belle and Sebastion are clearly evident as well. The result is a sound that is fresh and contemporary, yet familiar and just plain 'cool'.

Other must hear tracks include Cardinal Points, Penny & Jack, Don't Know Why (You Stay) and Snakes in the Grass which has recently been heard in Nissan comercials nationwide.

To listen to the Essex Green to review of this or any other CD, visit our website: www.cdreviewsbyyou.com.

New Reviews, October 2006

Sinner

By: Joan Jett And The Blackhearts

First lady of punk can still rock with the best

It's hard to believe but it has been over thirty years since Joan Jett first hit the music scene with The Runaways in 1975. At 46 Joan is every bit as hot and sexy as the young girl who stole the hearts of many a teenage boy including myself, in the late seventies and early eighties. If you don't believe me be sure to check out her website and watch a couple of her latest videos. I'll take Joan over Britney and Jessica any day.

The trademark voice is still in tact as well as for the most part, her longtime band The Blackhearts. Veteran Blackhearts Kenny Laguna Enzo Penizziotto and Thommy Price return for this album. Joining them on lead guitar is Dougie Needles of the New York punk band Public Offenders.

For the most part, 'Sinner' is vintage Joan. She manages to stay true to her roots with an album of pop punk ballads that do a good job at staying current and fresh while maintaining her trademark style. A good example of this is the opening track, "Riddles" where Joan takes a stab at George W Bush and Donanld Rumsfeld complete with sound bytes. Other stand out tracks on the album with a modern feel include 'ACDC' and 'Fetish'. Songs that remind us the most of early Joan are 'Naked' and 'everyone Knows'.

Overall this album is a good one that will manage to please Joan's older fans as well as introduce her music to a new generation. Hopefully this isn't the last we will hear from Joan.

For more CD Reviews and to post your review of this or any other CD, visit our website: www.cdreviewsbyyou.com.

Welcome to our blog

This is where you can find information and post comments about www.cdreviewsbyyou.com.
