One of the coolest bands of this or any year

I first heard The Essex Green one day while relaxing at home and listening to Sirius Left of Center radio. Their sound immediately caught my attention and I was compelled to run over to the receiver to jot down the name of the band. I purchased Cannibal Sea and it has quickly become one of my favourite CDs of this year.

Cannibal Sea is the third and most successful album from this Brooklyn, New York based band. Right from the catchy intro on the opening track, "This Isn't Farm Life" you can certainly hear the sixties pop and folk influences the band has become known for but I would hesitate to call them simply a retro-pop band. Modern influences such as Ben Folds, The Libertines and Belle and Sebastion are clearly evident as well. The result is a sound that is fresh and contemporary, yet familiar and just plain 'cool'.

Other must hear tracks include Cardinal Points, Penny & Jack, Don't Know Why (You Stay) and Snakes in the Grass which has recently been heard in Nissan comercials nationwide.
